Pec pod Sněžkou is not only a picturesque mountain town in the valley of the Úpa river, but also an important tourist and sports centre. Thanks to its location in the heart of the Krkonoše national park, our town is the ideal place for combination of experience and relaxation.
For the fans of active holidays, Pec offers a varied scale of opportunities dominated by one of the Czech Republic's biggest ski resorts with 11 ski slopes in the winter season, and by mountain tourism in the summer season. The views are undoubtedly the main attraction - be it from the summit of Sněžka or from the Hnědý vrch lookout tower, which are both accessible for visitors by chairlifts, or from the ridges of this country's most beautiful mountain range, where you an wander through virgin nature. The town consisting of two parts (Pec pod Sněžkou and Velká Úpa) has more than 600 permanent inhabitants. Most of them work in tourism-related services.

Velká Úpa, one of the best-known recreational centres in Krkonoše, is a part of the municipality of Pec pod Sněžkou. It stretches along both banks of the Úpa river in the length of five kilometres and thus welcomes visitors to the town. Its favourable location below the highest Czech mountain, healthy climate, beauties of the nature and suitable terrains create good conditions for recreation, tourism and winter sports, above all skiing. A cableway from Velká Úpa to the Portáš huts is available for tourists and guests all year round.
